Frequently asked Questions

What is telemedicine?

Although only recently made popular by the recent pandemic, telemedicine has been around for decades! Telemedicine means you will meet with the provider from your home using audio and/or video software. In most cases, appointments can be conducted through your computer or cell phone!

Is telemedicine as good or as safe as being seen in person?

Absolutely. Extensive research has been conducted on the efficacy of telemedicine, with overall consensus that it results in comparable or even superior patient outcomes! Endocrinology in particular is very well-suited for telemedicine, because most treatment plans rely on diagnostics such as lab/imaging results.

What is a certified Lipid Specialist?

A lipid specialist is a healthcare provider that has extended and focused study in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cholesterol and lipid disorders and has become certified by passing a board certification examination for competency. Becoming certified as a Clinical Lipid Specialist demonstrates professional accomplishment and growth, and validates competence, knowledge, dedication, and commitment to best practices and standards in the field of lipidology.

What is a Nurse Practitioner?

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse that has advanced qualifications, education, and training to provide medical care independently. Like physicians, nurse practitioners' scope of practice includes assessing, diagnosing and treating acute and chronic diseases. Nurse practitioners have recognized authority to prescribe medications, order diagnostic testing and provide recommendations based on those results. NPs partner with other members of the healthcare team to provide coordinated and comprehensive care.

How do you protect my privacy?

We take your privacy VERY seriously. We do not store any personal information on our website. Your Health Information is stored only on the HIPAA-Compliant EMR system we contract with. Appointments are never recorded under any circumstances, and the telemedicine platform we use for audio/video sessions is also HIPAA-compliant for your security.

Do you take my insurance?

Endo NP is a cash/credit-only service. This is so we can keep our prices down and pass our savings on to you!

Some insurance plans will reimburse you for your visit if you submit a receipt to them, but this is completely at the discretion of your insurance company and Endo NP cannot guarantee you will be reimbursed for any expenses. You will want to contact your insurance company if you intend to use your health insurance to cover our fees. In such cases, you will need to inquire about your out-of-network benefits.

When you call your insurance company be sure to ask the following questions:

  • is pre-certification or preauthorization required? If so, ask for (and write down) the number or code.
  • do you have a deductible you need to meet before your insurance starts to cover payment?
  • is there a maximum number of sessions per calendar year?

There are some companies that will process the receipt we give you (known as a "superbill") with your insurance company. We are not affiliated with these services but this may be nice for people who would not otherwise submit receipts for partial reimbursement. One of these companies, Better.co, has an easy to use app and will process the receipt for a fee or for 10% of whatever they are able to collect on your behalf.

What is the fee for an appointment?

EndoNP charges a flat fee of $85 for a new patient consult and $60 for a follow-up appt.*

VETERANS/ACTIVE MILITARY: We are proud to offer a discount to those who serve our country! Contact us today!

While we are a lot more affordable than other endocrinology clinics who routinely charge $120+ for an appointment, we understand this price still may be cost-prohibitive for some people. We are ultimately here to provide care to those who need it, so we do offer payment plans. Call us for more details!

Can I use my HSA card?

Most of the time Health Savings Account (HSA) cards work, but occasionally they are rejected by PayPal. If this occurs, please pay with another credit card and contact your HSA to inquire about how to seek reimbursement (we will provide a receipt upon request).

Can I be seen if I don't live in Virginia or Arizona?

Because Dr. Jeffrey has to be licensed to practice in the state in which you live, right now she is only seeing patients who live in either Arizona or Virginia. More states are coming soon!

To request your state, please send us a message letting us know!

Do I still need my primary care provider (PCP)?

YES. Dr. Jeffrey specializes in endocrinology, which means she does not provide primary care services, including screenings and wellness exams. She works in collaboration with your PCP, who will continue to be your primary provider for all things not related to endocrinology.

How will my prescriptions work?

Depending on the medication, Dr. Jeffrey can send your prescription directly to the pharmacy of your choice. Alternatively, your primary care provider can manage your prescription refills if you prefer.

I have a CDL and was told I can't take insulin! Is this true?

Not anymore! In 2018, much-needed new legislation was passed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) that no longer includes a blanket exclusion against the use of insulin. Those with CDL licenses can continue to drive and are no longer forced to choose between their health and their livelihoods.
